MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported that two people were treated for injuries after a blowout caused a large crane truck to lose control Thursday afternoon.
The accident began on Interstate 75 near Mile Marker 217 as a 45-year-old man from Holiday Florida was driving a semi tractor-trailer crane truck heading northbound in the inside center lane Thursday afternoon.
Adjacent to the crane truck also heading north, was a 70-year-old man from St Petersburg Florida driving a Sport Utility Vehicle.
At 1:30 PM the crane truck suffered a sudden tire failure in the right-front tire causing the large vehicle to rotate in a clockwise direction and collide with the left front of the SUV.
After colliding with the SUV the crane truck overturned onto its left side before coming to a stop on the eastern grassy shoulder of I-75.
The impact of the truck hitting the SUV caused the SUV to rotate in a clockwise direction and then come to a stop beside the stricken crane truck.
Fortunately, neither driver suffered life-threatening injuries and both drivers were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The Florida Highway Patrol has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
