SARASOTA – Florida Highway Patrol has announced six teenagers were seriously injured during a motor vehicle accident that took place Monday night.
The accident began as a 16-year-old girl from Sarasota Florida was driving a sedan heading south on Lords Avenue, approaching a stop sign at the intersection with Proctor Road.
Also traveling within the southbound sedan were four other teenagers riding as passengers, three of the passengers were 15-year-old boys, and another was a 16-year-old boy. All of the occupants in the sedan were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.
As the sedan approached the intersection with Proctor Road from the north, a Sport Utility Vehicle was approaching the same intersection traveling on Proctor Road heading west, traveling toward the intersection with Lords Avenue. Driving the SUV was an 18-year-old woman from Sarasota, who also was wearing a seat belt during the accident.
The report from FHP states that at 9:02:00 PM, “According to a witness, Vehicle 1 (the sedan) entered the path of Vehicle 2 (the SUV)”.
The front of the SUV crashed into the left side of the sedan with the five teenagers. Tragically all of the young people involved in this crash from both vehicles sustained serious injuries. The 16-year-old girl who was driving the sedan was reported to be in critical condition.
Auto accidents with serious injuries are always a terrible thing no matter who is involved, but events like this involving teenagers are particularly tragic.
