BRADENTON – Florida Highway Patrol has reported that a man was killed and a woman seriously injured after they were hit by a van while riding a motorcycle Friday night in Bradenton.
The crash took place as a 28-year-old man from Virginia was riding a motorcycle with a 27-year-old woman riding as a passenger traveling east on Cortez Road approaching the intersection with 51st Street West.
As the motorcycle approached the intersection, a 64-year-old man from Bradenton Florida was driving a van in the westbound left turn lane of Cortez Road West.
At 8:42:00 PM the driver of the van failed to yield to the oncoming motorcycle and attempted to make a left turn driving directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle.
The motorcyclist did not have time to avoid a collision and the right front of the van crashed into the left front of the motorcycle.
After the initial impact, the motorcycle overturned, throwing both the 28-year-old man and the 27-year-old woman onto the roadway.
The motorcyclist was critically injured and the passenger was seriously injured, both were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The 28-year-old man succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The 27-year-old woman remains in serious condition.
The driver of the van was not hurt in the crash and FHP has stated that the accident remains under investigation.
