MANATEE COUNTY – Florida Highway Patrol reported that one person has died and another was injured as a result of a motorcycle accident on US 41 Sunday night.
The crash began as a 68-year-old man from Bradenton Florida was driving a motorcycle northbound on US 41, approaching the intersection with Florida Boulevard.
Ahead of the motorcycle, a Sport Utility Vehicle Driven by a 48-year-old woman from Bradenton was also traveling northbound with the motorcycle following behind the SUV.
At 7:16 PM, the driver of the SUV slowed down to stop for a traffic signal, but the motorcyclists did not see or react in time.
As a result, the front of the motorcycle collided with the rear of the SUV at speed, and the force of the collision threw the rider off the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist was critically injured during the crash and taken to the trauma center at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton for treatment.
However, the injured motorcyclist later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at Blake Medical Center.
The driver of the SUV who was hit by the motorcycle suffered only minor injuries in the crash.
FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation
