Manatee County, FL – A deadly auto accident occurred late Wednesday night at the intersection of State Road 70 East and 87th Street East. The crash resulted in one fatality and another passenger being seriously injured. The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported the accident, which took place on May 15, 2024, at approximately 10:46 PM.
According to the FHP, a 27-year-old man from Bradenton, Florida, was driving a sedan eastbound on the inside lane of State Road 70 East, approaching the intersection with 87th Street East. At the same time, a sport utility vehicle, driven by a 41-year-old man also from Bradenton, Florida, was stopped ahead in the same lane, facing east.
The driver of the sedan failed to stop, resulting in a collision with the rear of the stopped SUV. The impact caused significant damage and led to injuries among the occupants of the SUV. The driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries. A 19-year-old woman from Bradenton, a passenger in the SUV, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital.
Tragically, a second passenger, a 50-year-old woman from Bradenton, was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Both vehicles were positioned in the eastbound inside lane of State Road 70 East at the time of the collision. The sedan approached from behind and collided with the stationary SUV at the intersection with 87th Street East.
The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash. More information will be released as it becomes available.
