Bradenton Bicyclist Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on US-41 And Suspect Arrested

BRADENTON – The Florida Highway Patrol has announced a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred early Saturday morning on US-41, involving a 41-year-old Bradenton man riding his bicycle.

The accident took place at approximately 2:30 AM, when a 21-year-old Bradenton man was driving a sport utility vehicle (SUV) northbound on US-41, just north of 66th Avenue West. At the same time, the bicyclist was also traveling north on the highway, riding directly in front of the SUV and without any lighting on his bicycle.

Tragically, the front of the SUV collided with the bicyclist. Following the impact, the bicyclist was fatally injured and pronounced deceased at the scene.

In a shocking turn, the driver of the SUV fled the scene after the crash. However, Bradenton Police Department officers later initiated a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle, which had sustained front-end damage consistent with the collision.

After a thorough investigation, the driver was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and has been booked into the Manatee County Jail.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
