South Florida is a haven for retirees, and a wonderful place to enjoy the golden years in life. With the booming population of senior citizens moving to Florida, there is certainly a market for nursing homes and assisted living services in the West Palm Beach community.
The good news is that there are many exceptional facilities in West Palm Beach and many offer a wealth of services to ensure our aging population is not only cared for but can enjoy this final stage in life. Unfortunately, not all homes are created equal and some perform worse than others.
The U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) monitors nursing homes and provides a star quality rating that ranks nursing homes. The Five-Star Quality Rating System is designed to help families compare nursing homes and to help identify areas of concern, so they can ask the right questions and make the best decisions.
In West Palm Beach, there are 43 nursing homes that are rated on the CMS website. As of March 2019, 17 had a five-star rating which means they are considered much above average quality and luckily there are were no nursing homes with a 1-star rating, which is considered to be much below average. However, there were three in the West Palm Beach area with an overall 2-star rating which is below average, and all three facilities only got one star for health inspections. The facilities that are poorly ranked are listed below and by clicking on the links you can access their full CMS profile and well as copies of the most recent health inspection report.

This information should only be used as a guide to help ask the right questions and make the best possible decision for your loved one. Note that while some of these nursing homes rate poorly for health inspections, they rate highly for quality measures. Quality measures evaluate various factors such as if residents have gotten their flu shots, are in pain, had one or more falls that resulted in a major injury, or are losing weight. These are all important factors that weigh in on the overall decision of where to place a loved one.
